Chelsea's loss, Rivals' gain - How the blues let go of the best talents in the Premier League

This season's Premier League has been quite a one horse race. None of the "Top 6" have been able to match Manchester City's quality on the field. Individually, we have seen the rise of a number of players.
Among them are Romelu Lukaku, Kevin de Bruyne and the "Egyptian Messi" , Mohamed Salah, all of whom have been a part of Chelsea at some point in their careers as young prospects.

1. Romelu Lukaku
First comes Lukaku, who signed for Chelsea from Anderlecht after scoring 19 and 20 goals in 2 consecutive seasons.
He instantly took his place on the bench as Chelsea had one too many strikers to deal with. Torres and Drogba were both ahead of the Belgian in the pecking order, and both of them proved pivotal to Chelsea's success in the Champions League in 2012. Lukaku was then loaned to West Brom the following season, producing 17 goals in the league.
The signings of Eto'o and Ba in the summer of 2013 meant first team action was a far fetched idea for the young striker, with Torres competing with the African pair for the starting place in Mourinho's 4-2-3-1 formation. Missing a penalty in the UEFA Super Cup diminished any left hopes for young Romelu.
Lukaku was loaned again, this time to Everton and was purchased after a season by The Toffees.
Lukaku has gone on to score 82 Premier League goals since his departure and has looked in great form this season for Manchester United, finding the back of the net 24 times already.

2. Kevin de Bruyne
Next comes De Bruyne, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Belgian club Genk in 2012. He was loaned to German club Werder Bremen for the season as soon as he arrived where he scored 10 league goals. José Mourinho returned as Chelsea manager in 2013 and made new signings with midfielders Willian and Schürrle coming in. These transfers along with the already present Oscar and Lampard made Kevin's chances of breaking into the first team bleak. To save his place in Belgium's squad for the World Cup, he switched to Wolfsburg in January 2014. This was where he proved his potential as he went on to score 10 and set up another 20 goals in the 14/15 season and sealed his big money move to Manchester City. He hasn't let the Cityzens down with consistent performances throughout his 3 seasons at the Etihad. He has also scored 10 and assisted 19 goals this term with City cruising towards the league title thanks to his brilliant efforts.

3. Mohamed Salah
Last on our list is probably the most dangerous player in the Premier League at the moment, Salah.
When Chelsea played Basel in the Champions league group stage in 13/14, the Swiss club emerged victorious in both the ties with Salah scoring in each of them. These stellar performances caught the eye of José Mourinho who bought Salah in the January transfer window. But with Chelsea's frontline crowded with the superb Hazard and the in form Willian and Schürrle, Salah barely got playing time during his six months with the Blues. He was loaned to Fiorentina and was later purchased by Roma where he showed his worth by scoring 29 league goals over 2 seasons. His €35m move to Liverpool saw one of the biggest bargains of all time and has gone on to score 28 league goals for The Reds, only 3 shy of Ronaldo's and Shearer's record of 31 in a single Premier League season. He has virtually carried Liverpool to the Champions League Quarter Finals with Manchester City looming in the next round. His goal against Chelsea must have reminded the Blues' fans that he is one player that would have been theirs had they not turned a blind eye towards his talent a few years ago.

My Conclusion : Chelsea may have shipped out some of the best youngsters in
the Premier League during the Mourinho era, but the truth is that all of them developed into better players in their spells with other clubs. They simply would not have fit into the Chelsea side that won 2 Premier Leagues in 3 seasons had they stayed.
