Marco Asensio : The most exciting young talent in the world

Image
In 2005 the Willemsem family went to a park in Mallorca and saw Florentino Perez's boat. Maria Willemsem personally went to greet the Real Madrid president and told him that her son would play for Real Madrid. Young Marco Asensio was only 8 back then but his mother saw in him the talent that is leaving us speechless everytime he walks out on the field. Unfortunately, Maria passed away when Marco was only 15 and left behind her two sons and their father. In 2016, Marco completed his mother's promise to Florentino and became a Real Madrid player. He broke down to tears during his presentation remembering his mother who he said was "always watching over him from above". And then followed a series of excellent performances over the next season, probably Real Madrid's best in history. He scored a screamer on his debut in the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla as the whites claimed glory. He also went on to score in all his debut matches for Real Madrid i...

Zidane is amongst the elite

The football world witnessed the most expensive transfer when Real Madrid signed Zidane from Juventus in 2001. Having won the World Cup with France in 1998, Zizou was looking for further success as he joined the company of the 'Galacticos'. He retired a legend at Real after helping them win the 2002 Champions League with a thunderous left foot volley. Nobody back then knew what an impact the man would have on the club's history. After sacking Rafael Benitez mid season, Real Madrid appointed its Castilla coach Zidane at the helm of the main team, a team full of superstars. As inexperienced as he may have been, he managed every player carefully to yield success within half-a-season. At the end of his six months in charge, Real had won the Champions League and beaten Barcelona at Camp Nou to push the La liga race right to the end of the wire. As the 16/17 season started, the team was missing a few players due to injury. So he gave opportunity to young talents like As...

Ronaldo - A feared winger to a pure finisher

Image
It was the half time break when Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs urged Sir Alex Ferguson to sign the 'lad' who had tormented John O'Shea throughout the first half. Ronaldo was the name and the 18 year old was tearing Manchester United apart in a pre-season friendly in 2003. As the match ended, Sir Alex took him to the United dressing room and introduced him to his players. Two days later Cristiano Ronaldo was signed by Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon for £12.3 million. It was like a fairytale for the teenager from Madeira. He wanted the no. 28 jersey but Sir Alex instead insisted on giving him the iconic no. 7 worn previously by David Beckham and Eric Cantona. He was soon up and running as he started spinning defenders off their feet in the United shirt. Defenders dreaded the pacy winger running towards them at with speed and a lot of tricks up his sleeve. And freestyle in the Premier League? This boy had courage, a lot of it. His freekicks seemed like a chal...

James Rodriguez : Three years of highs and lows

"I will never forget this day. I hope to work hard, to train well, and to experience a lot of joy here", said the Colombian sensation who had recently taken his country to the quarter finals of the World Cup as he completed a spectacular €80 million transfer to Real Madrid. David Luiz's free kick might have broken Colombian hearts but James saw his move to Madrid as an opportunity to gain quality experience and lead his country to a title in the future. It started off well. He won the UEFA Super Cup with Madrid on his official debut and scored a goal in the Spanish super cup as his team succumbed to defeat against city rivals Atletico. He soon became a prominent figure in the Real Madrid line-up and earned his fair share of playing time. When he went out of form, he was still believed in by the BernabĂ©u faithful. Real Madrid changed managers between seasons and mid-season. Enter Zidane, the architect of a team that would rule Europe in a few months. Opportuni...
